Our Workforce Development (WFD) department provides hundreds of short-term training programs in a wide range of topics. You don't need to complete the college application process to take a WFD class. Simply click on one you're interested in to find out more class information and register directly from there!

Scholarships and funding opportunities are available to most students. Public Safety students (fire, EMS, paramedic, law enforcement) may be eligible for 100% fee waivers after registering for classes. This 512-clock hour course will present the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfy the requirements of NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, (2019 edition; Chapters 4 and 5) and NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017 edition; Chapters 4, 5, 6.2, and 6.6). In addition, this series will include the Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) training, the Mayday and Firefighter Safety and Survival segments, as well as the Emergency Medical requirements found in Chapter 6 of NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications (2019 edition). This certification-related course covers the knowledge, skills, and requirements referenced in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021 Standard, 2020 edition, for Fire Officer I training. Topics include officer roles and responsibilities, community risk reduction, budgets, fire cause determination, inspections, education, leadership, management, public relations, and other requirements included in the NFPA standard. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of relevant NFPA standards as required for state Fire Officer I certification.
