Public Radio East (PRE) is a nonprofit, non-commercial broadcast service licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Board of Trustees. PRE operates out of Barker Hall on our New Bern campus, making them one of only six 100,000-watt public radio stations licensed to a community college.
The station was initiated by New Bern native Dr. Charles Barker, who became a charter member of the Board of Trustees of »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ CC (then still known as »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Industrial Education Center) in 1965. PRE’s WTEB-89.3 FM officially went on air on June 4, 1984. Today, they broadcast 24 hours a day on five frequencies and average 50,000 weekly listeners.
Through a collaboration with PRE, we now offer a Communications Equipment Repair certification program as part of our Electronics Engineering program.
