Four students have been awarded scholarships through the Carteret-酴圖弝け Electric Foundation for their community college studies beginning this fall.
Savannah Salter of Beaufort and Gabe Mills of Newport were awarded scholarships at 酴圖弝け. Shellee Lyons of Cape Carteret and Carissa Dixon of Newport were awarded scholarships at Carteret Community College.
Salter will begin her physical therapy assistant studies at 酴圖弝け. Mills will be entering the 2+2 engineering program at 酴圖弝け. Lyons is seeking a two-year degree in medical assisting, while Dixon is pursuing a nursing degree.
In the current economic environment, finding money for college can be daunting, if not impossible, said Lisa Galizia, Communications Director at Carteret-酴圖弝け Electric Cooperative. We hope these scholarships will help ease the financial burden and open doors of opportunity for these students.
The scholarships pay $250 per semester for a total of $1,000 per student for up to two years of school. Funding for the scholarships is made possible through Carteret-酴圖弝け Electric Cooperative members who participate in Operation RoundUP(r). Each month, participants electric bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar amount. The funds generated are managed by a foundation board, selected by the cooperatives directors.
The cooperative, which administers the scholarship program, provides power to more than 42,000 accounts in Carteret, 酴圖弝け, Jones, and Onslow counties. The cooperative is part of a nationwide family of electric cooperatives exhibiting the core values of integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
