When Trevor Dunnell enrolled at �ƹ���Ƶ, he knew he wanted a career that allowed him to connect with people and tell meaningful stories. What he didn’t yet know was just how far that path in communications would take him.

“My time at �ƹ���Ƶ CC helped me hone in on what skills I needed to pursue a career in communications and opened up job possibilities that I did not know were available in a field like this,” said Trevor.

While still a student, Trevor began freelancing as a sports reporter for several local newspapers and radio stations—a passion that soon evolved into a full-time career. In 2020, he joined the newsroom full time, and by 2023 he became the editor of the Sun Journal, Kinston Free Press, and Jacksonville Daily News. His ability to adapt, lead, and report with integrity opened new professional doors and ultimately led him to a new chapter in public service.

Today, Trevor serves as the Public Information Officer for the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, where he uses his communication expertise to inform, educate, and engage with the community.

Reflecting on his path, Trevor credits �ƹ���Ƶ for helping him discover his direction and develop the skills that carried him forward. 

“�ƹ���Ƶ CC is not a ‘one size fits all’ college but a conduit for people of all walks of life to find what best fits their needs and goals,” he said. “There is no one path to achieving your goal and there are more opportunities now than when I was in school. �ƹ���Ƶ will help you find what it is you are looking for, and as long as you put in the time and effort, you will find yourself in the position you want to be in when it’s over.”
